“Inside the World of Butterflies”

Thursday, April 2, 2020 2:00 - 3:30 PM

Nancy Pierce is a native Dallasite and 6th generation Texan. From art history, to anatomy, to knowing which plants you need to attract specific native butterflies in Dallas…, you will learn it all here, including fascinating details that surround the magnificent Monarch Butterfly!

Purely by accident, Nancy discovered the joys of gardening and is best known around town as The Texas Rose Lady. Her rose growing expertise has blossomed over the years, along with the 250 rose bushes she grew in her yard until she donated them to the Dallas Arboretum in 2018. She developed her own notecard and graphic design business using the thousands of photographs she has taken of her roses and currently sells and displays them at City Café To Go on Lovers Lane.

But in addition to rose gardening, Nancy discovered the intrigue of butterfly gardening, as well, and is coming to share with us her knowledge and experience of understanding all things butterfly!

“Me, Myself and I: Making a Successful Plan”

Thursday, February 20, 2020 2:00 - 3:30 PM

With the growing number of older adults aging alone, individuals must actively plan for the future. Understanding the options and having a strategy reduces uncertainty and helps a solo ager be in control of their future. Join us for this informative look at planning for your future. Ultimately…. Planning gives us CHOICES.

Carol Marak, solo aging advisor and syndicated columnist, is also the founder of The Elder Orphan Facebook group, creating a national movement, raising awareness and conversations about the solo aging concerns and challenges.  She writes and speaks about crucial topics encountered by people 55 and over when aging alone.

Carol spent thousands of hours helping her parents, researching needed resources, and writing hundreds of articles on aging-related topics. After caregiving, Carol soon understood the significance of planning ahead, especially when alone with no support.  According to Marak, “There is no greater teacher than family caregiving to learn the challenges of aging.”

Laying the proper groundwork for the advanced years builds self-reliance and confidence to face the future. Are you ready to take action and gain insight into what’s ahead? She proves that moving into action and planning, you can bypass overwhelm and self-doubt.

Seating is limited; please RSVP 214.818.0344

Event will take place in the Jackson Living Center Media Room.
