Lynda Ender serves as AGE Director (Advocacy Group for Elders) of The Senior Source where she keeps up with issues that affect older adults and provides education to older adults and elected officials. She is Secretary of the Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition, serves on Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson’s Senior Advisory Committee and was past League of Women Voters – Texas Issue Chair for Health Care for Those of Lesser Means and Health Care for Older Adults.

She was presented the “Accomplishment in Advocacy” award by the Dallas County Adult Protective Services Community Board, “2015 Virginia Macdonald leadership Award” by the League of Women Voters of Dallas, “Distinguished Human Service Professional” award by the Community Council of Greater Dallas, The “Distinguished Public Servant” award by the Women’s Council of Dallas County and the “Champion for Seniors” award by the Dallas County APS Community Board for her innovative and effective efforts with regard to the prevention of financial exploitation of elder and disabled citizens of Dallas County. Also, in 2018, Dallas Parks & Recreation honored her with their “Empowerment of Women” award.

Previously, Lynda worked as the Regional Coordinator for a state senatorial office. She has taught in the public schools and is twice a graduate of North Texas State University.

Fowler is pleased to have Lynda speak on the important topic of telemarketing fraud.

Marge and Gower Champion: Before the Parade Passes By

Next to Fred & Ginger, no other couple captured the hearts of the Broadway, TV, and movie-going public like Marge & Gower Champion. They came into their own during the ’50s and ’60s with amazing lifts, ballroom choreography, and show dancing in movies like Showboat. Gower went on to direct and choreograph hits on Broadway including Bye Bye Birdie, Hello, Dolly!, and 42nd Street. Marge continues to dance in her nineties. This review covers the ups and downs of their fascinating career.

“Alzheimer’s Disease Update” with Mary Quiceno, M.D.

Dr. Quiceno is a neurologist, specializing in the care and treatment of adults with brain and nervous system disorders. Her practice focuses on older adults concerned about memory loss, those diagnosed with cognitive impairment or dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, and people with movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease. She is active in clinical research, performing trials of new drugs and interventions to help people with memory loss and dementia. Dr. Quiceno also teaches medical students and is the Director of the Neuromusculoskeletal Systems Course at the TCU/UNTHSC School of Medicine.

Danny Mack is a graduate of The University of North Texas and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently the Director of Spiritual and Social Services for Christian Care Hospice. A gifted speaker, Danny presents locally and nationally on topics such as caregiving, hospice, and bereavement and is a facilitator for support groups for the Alzheimer’s Association. Danny authored “If Grief is a Game, These are not The Rules.”

Lewy Body Dementias Presented by Cindy Marshall, M.D.

Dr. Marshall will provide an overview of the Lewy Body Dementias. She will discuss how LBD differs from other cognitive disorders, as well as review treatment options.

About our Speaker:

Cindy Marshall, M.D., joined Baylor Health Care System in 2011 as director of the Memory Center, now known as the Baylor AT&T Memory Center. Dr. Marshall has a special interest in treatment of the memory, mood and behavioral problems associated with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Dr. Marshall earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed a four-year psychiatry residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of California Los Angeles.

Building a Church, Building a City

As we celebrate our 125th Anniversary, Juliette Fowler Communities presents Sheryl Taylor Curlee, author of “Building a City, Building a Church.”  Many of the early settlers in Dallas were the founders of the first church built in Dallas. The Peak family was one. At Fowler, we have a special connection to this lineage as our namesake, Juliette Fowler, was the daughter of church founder Jefferson Peak. Ms. Curlee will shares stories about this historic time and about the first church built in our city.
