COVID Briefing, September 22, 2020

  • Good afternoon Fowler Family!
  • Lots to share today
  • Thank you to all who supported Fowler on North Texas Giving Day last Thursday
    • We surpassed our goal of $30,000 raising $47,662 for Fowler’s One Heart Fund
    • The North Texas community raised $58,827,541!
      • 106,389 people donated to 3242 nonprofit organizations
    • What an exciting opportunity for all of us to be philanthropists – it demonstrates the impact that we can make as a collective group. Your dollar and my dollar combined can create a LOT of good
  • COVID UPDATE:
    • Dallas County reported 311 confirmed new cases and 11 presumptive positive new cases
    • We did not see the anticipated surge from Labor Day
    • Dallas County remains in the ORANGE level which means we are at a moderate risk for community transmission of COVID
    • Dallas County has released an interactive COVID data website that allows the authorities to identify new hotspots
    • Interesting data includes the numbers of confirmed cases since March in each zip code
      • 75214 – 508 cases [our zip code]
      • 75218 – 379 cases [White Rock]
      • 75228 – 596 cases [Casa View]
      • 75206 – 751 cases [M Streets]
      • 75231 – 1369 cases [Lake Highlands]
    • Social distancing and [not or] face masks continue to be our best defense
  • FOWLER UPDATE:
    • Last Thursday, Gov. Abbott announced plans to expand visitation in long-term care facilities, [skilled nursing and assisted living] effective September 24, 2020
      • The governor has removed his Executive Order to turn all decisions back to HHSC
      • We are waiting for the next phase in their guidelines
      • Once we receive the visitation guidelines, our team will need to determine how best to implement
      • We have received multiple inquiries about opening for visitations.  Some have simply asked when they can come.  Others have expressed fear and reluctance about allowing visits at all
    • Please know that we understand the urgency for families to visit their loved ones
    • We have gone to great lengths to mitigate the risk of COVID for our residents. Fort Fowler has been successful!
    • We will adapt our protocols as more information is provided
    • In the meantime, thank you for your continued support and understanding
    • CHANGE: As our knowledge of COVID evolves and Dallas County COVID numbers decrease or increase, our protocols will change
      • I know change can be frustrating and we ask for your patience as we continue to adapt to external factors
        • Our most recent changes pertain to deliveries to the Administration Center
        • Pearl Nordan Care Center deliveries will continue to come to the Administration Center. NEW days and times: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9am-4 pm. No more Saturday delivery dates after this Saturday.
