COVID BRIEFING, DECEMBER 29, 2020

  • Good afternoon Fowler Family!
  • COVID UPDATE:
    • Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 7,387 new cases Thursday through Sunday.
    • They have also reported 26 deaths since Thursday.
  • FOWLER UPDATES:
    • Here at Fowler, we have two team members who have been confirmed COVID positive
      • Neither team member is in a direct care position
      • One provides ancillary services at Fowler Christian Apartments
      • The other works in our youth program
      • We have contact traced and additional team members have been tested. We expect those results by tomorrow.
      • No residents have been tested at this time
    • We have just celebrated Christmas and some of you may have spent time with family members outside of your household
    • Clearly our Dallas County numbers are spiking which automatically puts our team at greater risk
    • We have tools for our protection and everyone needs to be using the tools that have been provided – Love Your Neighbor Basics
      • Maintain at least 6 feet from all individuals
      • Continue to wash your hands and sanitize frequently
      • Pay attention to your body and any signs that you may be demonstrating symptoms
      • Proper mask wearing is a must
        • Masks should fit snugly on the sides, nose and under the chin
        • If your mask falls down below your nose, if it gaps on the side, it does not fit right. If it does not fit right, it is not offering protection! You are putting your self and others at risk.
        • There are many types and styles of masks, your goal is to wear a mask that forms a seal around your mouth and nose
      • We all are responsible for proper mask wearing
      • Everyone at Fowler is empowered to encourage and monitor mask wearing
    • If you see someone who is not wearing their mask right, tell them – it is everyone’s responsibility to monitor and kindly remind people to put on their mask
      • Also, do not take your mask off to talk – that defeats the purpose of wearing the mask
    • Our PPE is our only defense at this time
    • Our community has worked so hard to keep everyone safe
    • With our numbers spiking, we must be even more vigilant
    • We have had 9 months to practice for this moment of extreme precaution
    • Your mask is a visible sign of you living our values – this is one of the best ways you can love people and pursue excellence
    • Continuing to minimize your exposure in the greater community is another
    • Team members, be extremely cautious about break rooms – eating with your mask off in close proximity, drinking a cup of coffee with a teammate – these are all exposure opportunities – be on guard; eat alone; in 14 days we will be vaccinated and we all want to get to that point
  • Please keep our friends at Christian Care in your prayers – their COVID outbreak continues to grow and they are now utilizing FEMA nurses and aides to maintain care
    • Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins warns that care in our hospitals could be impacted as there is not enough staffing to manage an increase in numbers
    • We implore all of you to do your part
  • Today, we will be sending notices to various areas to get signatures needed for our vaccine clinics in our licensed areas
    • Fowler strongly recommends the vaccine
    • COVID will not be eradicated unless a large percentage of people choose to vaccinate
    • The research shows the risk of vaccine is minimal
    • Protocols and procedures will be in place to monitor and guard against any negative reaction
    • If you have questions, please contact your supervisor, we would like to help you make a decision that is right for you
  • Tremendous thanks to our team who continues to persevere in their efforts – at Fowler and away from Fowler. Your sacrifices this year have impacted the health of our entire community
  • Utopia Food & Fitness donated 510 meals to FCA today – we are so grateful for the generosity of so many! This is one more example of our community outpouring for us
  • TEAMMATE TUESDAY:
    • Today is Olu Fasusi’s birthday!  Happy birthday wishes, Olu!
    • On December 31st Rhonda Jennings celebrates her birthday.
    • I’d like to take a moment to lift up our teammates who volunteer to come in on holidays to serve as manager on duty.  Many of you are aware that every Saturday we have one member of our team who serves as manager on duty but what some of you may not be aware of is on holidays and days surrounding holidays our manager on duty is a teammate who volunteers to take these days.  Last week on Christmas eve Valarie Gray volunteered to serve MOD, Christmas day Patty Hegarty volunteered to serve MOD and on the day after Christmas Malena Dickey volunteered to serve MOD.  Thank you to these three teammates for pursuing excellence in ensuring we had a presence of a MOD on campus.  This week, Jan Matise is serving as MOD on New Years Eve, Joie’ Thornton is serving on New Year’s Day and Dwight Ausbrooks is serving on Saturday.  Thank you to you three as well for volunteering to serve as MOD during the New Year Holiday.

  • Make it a great day on purpose!
