COVID Briefing: August 20, 2020, 2 pm
- Good afternoon Fowler Family!
- COVID Update
- Dallas County has been seeing a decreasing pattern of new cases
- However, numbers may rise as children go back to school
- We know the state has experienced a backlog in reporting; in fact, the county has stated that most of what has been reported over the last 3 days is from June and July
- With that in mind, I will share the numbers as we know them – these were reported yesterday on the County website; today’s update has not been posted
- As of 1:00pm August 19, 2020, Dallas County Health and Human Services is reporting 399 additional confirmed cases of (COVID-19), bringing the total confirmed case count in Dallas County to 66,464, including 843 confirmed deaths.
- From August 6 to 14th, 227 school-aged children between 5 to 18 years of age were reported to have been diagnosed with confirmed COVID-19. Over 3,549 children under 18 years of age have been diagnosed with confirmed COVID-19 since July 1st, including 66 children who have been hospitalized for COVID-19.
- Another good piece of news – our hospitalizations are down 45% from last month
- Our take away: Love Your Neighbor Basics are working – not just here, but throughout the state people are taking these same simple measures to heart – the most important being wear your mask; distance yourself from others and wash your hands
- We are doing our part at Fowler – we have no COVID symptoms or reported cases
- However, there is another Dallas County Health and Human Service Concern – MOSQUITOS
- Did you know Mosquitos are considered the world’s deadliest animal?! Mosquito related illnesses kill about 725,000 people worldwide each year775,000
- More specifically in Dallas today, the related illness concern is Lime Disease – mosquito samples have tested positive for Lime Disease in our 75214 zip code
- Your precautions are fairly simple:
- Wear repellant when outdoors
- Wear light colored long sleeves and long pants when outdoors
- Limit sitting outside for long periods of time
- Fowler Updates:
- Ruby Henry Heinz from Northway Christian will be preaching on Sunday from the chapel – if you have not been getting your personal pack of communion elements please let Chaplain Venessa know
- Thank you to all the team members and residents who have been tuning in to the bible study on Wednesdays – we know we are having some technology glitches and continue to remedy them
- One resident communicated to Venessa that she appreciated that Venessa had technology problems too – so we are all learning this together
- However, we are going try something new for next week – Venessa will record the Bible Study and it will play on Channel 2
- Labor Day is coming up – there will be no delivery times available on Labor Day Weekend – so no deliveries that Saturday
- Big shout out to our FCA team members who have converted the Means Dining Room into a fun activity room for our FCA assisted living residents. This area is part of our assisted living licensed area so only the assisted living residents can enter and participate. Assisted Living Residents can now enjoy crafts, painting, puzzles, coloring, movie nights and more! A great example of how our team is keeping our values in front of all they do – Love people, pursue excellence and make a difference!
- Thank you – and make it a great day on purpose!
