- Good afternoon Fowler Family!
- COVID UPDATE:
- On Wednesday, Dallas County added 378 new cases and 20 deaths
- More than 10 million Texans have had at least one dose of the vaccine
- 30% of Dallas County has received a first shot leaving more than a million people unvaccinated
- There is no longer a waitlist in Dallas County for vaccines. Those signing up are getting appointments in the same week
- 30% is also the national average and experts fear not enough people are getting vaccinated and this is causing grave concern
- There is an urgency to have people vaccinated before summer as the virus may wane during the summer months naturally and people will lose their interest if it appears to be controlled
- However, the variants are growing, new strains from the UK are now dominant, and the concern is that the virus will circulate within an unvaccinated population and come back with full force vengeance in the fall
- If you are not vaccinated, we strongly urge you to reconsider
- If your loved ones are not vaccinated, please strongly encourage them
- Let’s not let COVID take back our time together
- A common vaccine question:
- If I had COVID, do I still need the vaccine?
- The answer is yes. You should confirm with your personal physician, but current evidence suggests reinfection is uncommon in the 90 days after initial COVID infection. Persons who have had COVID may delay vaccinating to the end of this 90-day period
- FOWLER UPDATES:
- Fowler’s next vaccine clinic is April 15, 9am at Means Activity Center in partnership with Faith Presbyterian Hospice

- CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH:
- Today’s Focus: The Ebby House at Fowler
- For seven years, The Ebby House at Juliette Fowler has provided a safe place for young women, ages 18-24, to live and receive healing services to assist each young woman reach her fullest potential and work toward successful independence. The stories of each young woman vary but each has a common theme – abuse, neglect, or abandonment throughout their childhood. Trauma is a consistent theme that bonds the young women of The Ebby House. The stories and wounds they carry with them are always heartbreaking and physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually wounding.
- Often coming from the Child Protective Services environment, the young women have little to no family support when they enter The Ebby House program, where they can stay for up to two years. Some maintain their connections to their CPS workers and some continue their relationship with their Court Appointed Special Advocate if they have one.
- Once a child reaches their 18th birthday, they leave CPS oversight and often seek independence before they are prepared. The Ebby House steps into the role of supporting and guiding them into adulthood.
- When Maria came into the program, she and her brother had been in the CPS system most of their lives. Struggling with social skills and with minimal life skills, Maria entered the program withdrawn and fearful. With encouragement and support, she enrolled in the Year Up program at El Centro, an intern-focused educational program. College had always been a goal but she had no stable, safe home to support her. With therapy, coaching, and support of Fowler staff and mentors, Maria spent two years at The Ebby House, healing and growing. Living on her own for the last 2 years, Maria stays in touch with Lisa and is now in a healthy relationship and reports she is the happiest she has ever been.
- Through the coming weeks, we will continue to share stories of our young women – their healing and resiliency and where they are heading in life.
