- Good afternoon Fowler Family!
- COVID UPDATE:
- Yesterday, January 11, 2021, Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 1867 new cases and 4 deaths.
- FOWLER UPDATES:
- Tomorrow is VACCINE DAY AT FOWLER!
- Wednesday, between 11am-5pm, JLC and PNCC residents and staff will join the 9.5 million Americans who have already been vaccinated in our efforts to KICK COVID to the CURB!
- On Friday, FCA team and FCA Assisted Living will be vaccinated
- Here are some basic vaccine reminders
- You will not be fully vaccinated against COVID until you get your second shot which will be given 21-28 days later
- You may experience some side effects after getting vaccinated. These are the most common side effects per the CDC
- Pain at the injection site
- Swelling in the arm
- Low fever
- Chills
- Tiredness
- Headache
- Side effects – if you have any – should go away within a day or two
- If you have soreness or swelling, the CDC recommends a cool compress and exercising/using your arm
- If you have fever, drink plenty of water
- If you have pain or discomfort, talk to your doctor about taking an over the counter medicine like ibuprofen or acetaminophen
- The CDC recommends the second shot even if you have side effects after the first one unless your health provider advises differently
- It will take time for your body to build up immunity to COVID after having both shots
- Even after we are vaccinated, its important to wear a mask in public and utilize all of our Love Your Neighbor Basics. Why?
- The vaccine isn’t 100% effective
- It’s unclear if you can still SPREAD the virus – you may not get sick but you can make someone else sick
- Most experts feel we will need to see 70-85% of the population vaccinated to eradicate COVID
- Some of the questions we have received
- Can you eat or drink before and after the vaccine?
- It is not recommended that you drink alcohol, but other than that, you can proceed as you normally would
- How long will we be monitored?
- We have heard 15 minutes and we have heard 30 minutes – we will follow the instructions provided to us tomorrow by CVS
- When will I find out my time
- This is new to all of us – it is even new to CVS. There are some things we do not have answers on – this is one of them – please keep your schedule open between 11a-5pm. We will receive information when CVS arrives
- We have come so far
- I am so proud of all of you for your efforts to protect each other and keep our community safe – everyone of you is a hero and tomorrow we have the opportunity to do something truly historic
- We have had COVID incidents but not the extreme that others have experienced
- Let me be clear, when we mention the hardships of others, this is not to promote us; this is to simply provide an example for a learning opportunity or to put concrete examples to why we ask what we have asked
- Thank donors and volunteers
- While we were unable to volunteers in our buildings, volunteers helped in many different ways – chalk messages and drawings on our sidewalks, grocery runs, dropping off food for our team, sunshine cards, virtual visits
- Our Master Gardeners, so many of our churches were tireless volunteers this year – thank you!
- Special shout out to Diana Palmer who has baked something for the support service team every Monday for months
- We are still finalizing our accounting, but unofficially, it appears we raised close to $935,000 for One Heart fund!
- Our donors remembered that our mission to care for vulnerable children and youth didn’t stop because of COVID and they responded with great generosity
- THANK YOU to the many teammates who are part of Joy Team and the many residents who choose to give to Fowler!

He handled the situation BEAUTIFUULY and followed all necessary precautions with a calm demeanor. Thank you thank you thank you to Michael!
