- Good afternoon Fowler Family!
- COVID UPDATE:
- As of 12:00 pm December 21, 2020, Dallas County Health and Human Services is reporting 1,814 additional positive casesof COVID-19 in Dallas County. There is a cumulative total of 156,266 cases.
- In the last 2 days, Dallas County has reported 53 deaths
- For the first time since the pandemic started, 1000 individuals are hospitalized with COVID in Dallas County
- New York Times reported that ICU beds throughout the Dallas Metroplex are full
- The challenge is in staffing and having enough nurses who are certified for ICU
- We know that Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas is relying on FEMA for nurses
- I cannot impress on you enough how important it is for you to maintain safety precautions for Christmas
- Fowler did not have the Thanksgiving surge that our city is seeing – thank you for loving your neighbor and making personal sacrifices
- Teammates, please continue to minimize your interactions and refrain from large groups
- All of us should maintain at least 6 feet of distance from anyone who is not living in the same household and of course, wear a mask
- For more information about planning safe holiday gatherings, go to https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays.html
- VACCINE UPDATE:
- Vaccinations have been going on all week in Dallas
- We have received our consent forms and they will be distributed to residents in our licensed areas and to our staff
- The vaccine is a two-step process
- Phase 1 will be administered on 1/13
- Phase 2 will be administered on 2/3
- The decision to take the vaccination is a personal decision; just like all the COVID decisions we make – such as where we go, who we see, whether we wear a mask, zoom our holidays, Instacart our groceries – these are personal decisions and choices that happen to impact the health of others
- I strongly recommend that you take the vaccine as soon as it is offered
- INFORMATION FROM FOWLER MEDICAL DIRECTOR:
- There are reports about a mutation of the virus in England
- Anytime a virus mutates it can make it more contagious, less contagious or have no affect at all
- Additionally, anytime a virus mutates, it can make it more deadly, less deadly or have no affect
- Current reports are that the mutated virus appears more contagious, but there are no reports that it is more deadly
- Bray believes that it would be very hard for this virus to bypass the vaccine through one mutation – it usually takes several; however, we are about to find out
- His recommendation:
- Get some sunshine
- Go for a walk
- Take Vitamin D, Vitamin C and Zinc – recent reports show that 80% of those with severe COVID also had a Vitamin D deficiency, Zinc helps our bodies use nutrients
- Eat healthy [clean]
- Get at least 8 hours of sleep
- Exercise
- Avoid large crowds
- And get vaccinated!
- According to the news, the US is not banning travel from the UK
- Fauci stated that it is probably already here; banning travel would be an over reaction and he advises against additional restrictions
- Again, we as individuals know what we need to do
- Wear a mask, stay out of large crowds and maintain distance from others
- OTHER UPDATES:
- We have been notified about the resurgence of a scam
- The scammers share numbers that appear to be for printer support online, mostly for Canon and HP products. The company name is Micro Global Solutions, supposedly located in the state of Washington and with WA numbers.
- You call the number, and they will try to convince you or your resident that they owe you a refund or attempt to sell you a protection plan for $199. They’ll ask you to navigate to alpemix.com and download a program from there where you can use to enter your banking information.
- DO NOT GO TO THIS WEBSITE, download any programs from this website or purchase protection plans
- Do not speak to anyone from this company and give them access to your computer – their intention is to secure your banking and credit card information
- These people try to prey on older adults, and they are very persistent, including continual calls. They usually call from different numbers; all identified thus far are listed below.
- We encourage you, if possible, to block these numbers. (425) 880-3076, (425) 551-7568, (908) 605-8200, (321) 802-1938, (425) 222-1427

- I want to share a story which speaks to our Fowler Family culture. Two teammates at FCA, Malena Dickey and Dwight Ausbrooks, supported another teammate in a way that family does. When a teammate from another department needed support with making a medical appointment, Dwight was there assisting and supporting. When the time came for the appointment and the teammates needed “family” by her side, Malena was there and Dwight came too. These actions of care and support speaks to the love of our Fowler Family. We might not be blood relatives, but we are family!
- Make it a great day on purpose!
