Dallas County released their COVID-19 risk level chart on May 11, 2020. After nearly four months, the county lowered the level from red to orange yesterday, September 2nd.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson on Wednesday urged people to continue to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 over the upcoming holiday weekend.
The mayor made the request that people continue to wear masks and socially distance from one another during a news conference Wednesday afternoon, saying it was good news that the county lowered the COVID-19 risk level from red to orange, but that now was no time to relax mitigation efforts.
This is what is to be considered by Dallas residents under the orange level:
Going to a restaurant: drive-thru, curbside, and take out or delivery remain preferable dining out options; dine-in should ONLY be considered if tables are appropriately spaced (more than 6 ft), occupancy levels are low, and staff and other patrons are wearing face coverings when you aren’t eating and observing social distancing. Avoid or exercise extreme caution if you are over 65 or in a high-risk group.
Going shopping: limit trips and practice physical distancing. Face masks should be worn by both patrons and store employees. Delivery or curbside pick-ups are still preferred. Non-essential visits could be considered but it is recommended that you avoid non-essential store strips if you are over 65 or in a high-risk group
Travel: It is recommended that you avoid non-essential travel, if you are over 65 or in a high-risk group
Attending Religious Services, Funerals, Large Gatherings: In-person attendees should be limited to a number that allows full physical distancing (6 ft on all sides); ideally fewer than 10 people. Cloth facial coverings should be worn by all attendees. Hand hygiene should be practiced. Avoid specific practices that involve closer interaction, touch, or shared objects. Avoid social gatherings that may precede or follow services. It is recommended that you avoid this activity if you are over 65 or in a high-risk group
Personal Services (Barber shops, nail salons, hair salons, etc): Individuals should only visit businesses operating under strict hygiene protocols; with strict physical distancing, hand hygiene, facial coverings, and aggressive cleaning of high touch surfaces; capacity should be limited to 25%; it is recommended that you avoid these services if you are 65 or in a high risk group
Going to gyms is not recommended. Outdoor fitness/recreation with social distancing and non-shared equipment should be considered.
Going to bars is not recommended
With these new protocols, Dallas county urges all residents to use extreme caution when venturing out into Dallas Community. The Love Your Neighbor basics of physical distancing, face coverings, frequent use of hand washing and/or sanitation, avoiding gathering of 10 or more people are still strongly recommended when considering what activities to resume in the “Extreme Caution” phase of Dallas County’s COVID Health guidance plan.
Fowler Updates:
In JLC, we had a team member test positive for COVID.
The team member provided assistance to two residents in their apartment prior to showing any symptoms. The last day worked was Friday, August 28th.
The team member identified their symptoms through our screening tools prior to coming to work on Monday and was tested by their personal physician that day.
We received the results yesterday, September 2, 2020. JLC’s calling tree was activated last night.
We have tested the teammates who worked routinely with the impacted employee, as well as the two residents care was provided to.
To date, we have no residents with COVID or with any symptoms of COVID.
We remain vigilant in our efforts to exercise every reasonable precaution to prevent the spread of COVID. We are asking residents to refrain from coming to the main lobby until test results are received. We will communicate our timeline to you as we know more.
I wanted to share a few sweet resident stories with you-
We have a new resident- Sheri H.- who moved in with us in the middle of June- she initially moved into the Carroll Neighborhood for a 14-day quarantine with the goal to become a Worth Neighborhood resident. She moved from her home where she had lived for 50+ years and moved to the Worth neighborhood after her quarantine. As Jenn Garland, PNCC Executive Director, was spending time in the Worth Neighborhood yesterday, Sheri was receiving a relaxing manicure from our Worth teammate- Angie. Her nails looked beautiful and Jenn commented as such. Sheri looked at them and agreed and then looked at Angie and replied, “She is a really good one”.
Sheri’s daughter- Judi- told Jenn in an email this week that her mom stated that “she feels comfortable”.
FCA resident, Karen R, is soliciting smiles from neighbors by bringing the outdoors in. Karen and her helpers have created a rock and shell display in their building that includes a makeshift Ferris wheel and bricks painted with the encouraging message to love each other. Residents drop by to add to the collection and see what’s new in the display. Additional, larger painted rocks can be found outside the A/B building.
