Daily Briefing, March 27, 2020

  • We are 13 days into White House’s 15 Day Slow to Spread mandate
  • Here are some of the updates on the state and national level
    • Congress passed the 2 trillion-dollar relief bill for the economy
    • Governor Abbot has implemented a 14-day quarantine for individuals flying to Texas from New York tri-state area, New Orleans
    • As of yesterday, 21,000 have been tested in Texas,
    • There are 1539 confirmed Texas cases
    • 576 of those are in North Texas and 300 of those are in Dallas County.
    • Dallas is leading the state in confirmed cases and fatalities.
    • 2300 additional hospital beds have been allocated to COVID 19 if and when they are needed
  • Please remember, all our efforts to socially isolate are intended to reduce the need for hospital beds. New York City doesn’t have a hospital bed for someone who has a heart attack, is in a car accident, falls off a ladder – other daily emergencies. By self-isolating, we can help prevent the spread and possibly reserve a hospital bed for more serious cases
  • Here at Fowler, we are well – we have no symptoms and no confirmed cases – that is reason to cheer.
  • US Mail Update:
    • The post man has noticed that some of you have changed your address to 1234 Abrams – you do not have to change your address – maintain your address for your building.
    • The post office is working with us to sort mail by building and they are bringing it to us to distribute
  • Teammate Updates:
    • You must complete your required Relias Online Training before 3/31
    • Today I sent out COVID Training Updates via email – these outline the new CMS regulations on COVID infection control protocols.
  • Shout outs to some of our hardworking team members
    • To our caregiving teammates who are providing room service to our residents in all of Pearl Nordan Care Center and in the assisted living in Fowler Christian Apartments
    • For Keyairria who put together and implemented bingo on Channel 6 for PNCC residents
    • WOO HOO for Venessa who has placed prayer boxes in all our neighborhoods and started our new Weekly Bible Study on Channel 6
    • TO the FCA Nursing Team and Environmental Service teams who are jumping in and helping to support all our FCA residents with deliveries of meals and groceries – shout out to Charlotte, Nadine, Derrick, Teresa, Emily and Gary.
  • We have gotten many kind messages and notes from residents
    • Y’all are doing a great job and residents are lucky to have a staff like Fowler’s”
    • “You walk on water as far as I’m concerned and have not let us down”
    • Y’all are doing a bang-up job! Don’t’ know how in the world you keep up with such a small staff. Your efforts are appreciated!”
    • We residents at Fowler know you’re doing everything in your power to keep us safe. I can’t believe you’re doing not only your regular work but all these other things for us! I’ve told many friends outside of Fowler and my brother in New York and they are very impressed and tell us how lucky we are (and we know it!) You know it wouldn’t hurt to slow down and keep yourself safe too, I f you all become ill I believe we would all collapse! Also, whoever got Channel 6 in place was really thinking ahead! We’re all impressed with it as a way to keep up updated – its almost like being able to touch you and that’s a wonderful thing, something we miss. We will get through this virus, we’ve got you! Thank you for your blessings.”
  • As hard as it may seem to be right now, God has blessed us with HIS purpose, patience, endurance and love. The messages of sunshine are just ways His love is touching us.
  • I want to discuss some terminology – the difference between quarantine and self-isolating or social distancing. Very different
    • We are not quarantined.
      • Quarantined means you stay in your room for a prescribed amount of time. Not coming out at all.
      • This would be used if a person displays symptoms of COVID, has been exposed to COVID or has been confirmed with COVID
      • Self-isolating means you are staying in your room and not using common spaces. You can still come out to walk outside and maintain social distancing. Those who are self-isolating are individuals who have been to the doctor, have been in highly congested areas any resident who makes the choice to leave the safety of COVID free Fowler.
      • Self-distancing means you are maintaining at least a 6-foot distance from others when walking; one person to an elevator
      • I share this with you because the sun is shining and we want you to enjoy the sunshine, to get your exercise.
      • We are blessed by 25 acres of walking paths – you can use them – just don’t walk together, maintain 6 feet from another.
      • Watch what you touch, sanitize and wash your hands religiously.
    • There are also so many great messages that people are posting on social media.
    • I want to share one with you
      • We are not stuck at home; we are safe at home. One word can change your attitude and one cough can change your life
    • Thank you for keeping you and your neighbors safe.
