Daily Briefing, May 06, 2020

  • Good afternoon Fowler Family!
  • We had some new jokes and quotes come through the COVID hotline:
  • “You never realize how anti-social you are until there’s a pandemic and your life doesn’t really change that much”
    • Some of our more introverted friends are thriving – they have trained all their lives for this pandemic and they are loving their cozy chair and watching the Hallmark channel
    • Our extraverted friends on the other hand are starting to miss people they don’t even like!
  • This one about sums up Team Fowler
    • “I can’t go out because of the virus” sounds weak, whiny and boring. Try instead: “I’ve sworn an oath of solitude until the pestilence is purged from the lands.” Sounds more Valiant and Heroic, people might even think you are carrying a sword”
  • It’s how I feel right now trying to protect Fort Fowler
  • Our numbers are going up and its concerning
    • Yesterday, Dallas County saw 253 new cases and 7 deaths
    • This is the third day in a row that our numbers have gone up
    • Contrary to popular belief, it is not because the testing has gone up
    • The testing centers are not seeing an increase in tests; just an increase in confirmed cases
  • CBS News reported:
    • Texas has been one of the most aggressive states in relaxing social distancing guidelines, moving in near lockstep with Georgia on reopening measures. Last Friday, libraries, museums, restaurants and movie theaters were permitted to reopen at 25% capacity. Hair and nail salons are the next businesses slated to open, later this week. All of this comes as reported cases in the state trend in the wrong direction. Texas has reported 1,000 or more new cases in a single day seven times, five of which have come in the last week. The correlation between relaxed social distancing and an increase isn’t lost on Governor Greg Abbott who, in a leaked call with lawmakers and staff obtained by CBS News said, “The more that you have people out there, the greater the possibility there is for transmission.”
  • How does this impact the opening of Fowler?
    • We are evaluating every process we have implemented over the last 8 weeks
    • Tomorrow, you will see Kirk the mailman entering your building
    • Your UPS deliveries will be coming directly to your building and not going through our sanitation station
    • We are having conversation with our salon operators to discuss what protocols would be put in place for a safe reopening of Fowler salons at a date to be determined later
  • Team members we need you to continue to socially isolate and maintain your practices
  • The governor is depending on all of us to exercise good judgement
  • It’s tempting to want to dash out the gate. It’s tempting to want to immediately return to life pre COVID
  • 1 Corinthians 10:13 says “The only temptations that you have are the temptations that all people have. But you can trust God. He will not let you be tempted more than you can stand. But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation. Then you will be able to stand it.”
  • While we know there is a sense of restlessness, there is also a sense of resolve and acceptance
  • I have been getting the kindest notes of support from many of you. I want to share this one:
    • “The mother hen calls out to her chicks when they are in danger. They come running to hide beneath her wings and her quiet call gathers her young to rest around her or under her wings. Thank you, Fowler for being our ‘wings’ during this pandemic. Thanks to every one of you who stepped out to honor our seniors here by keeping us safe. “
  • Thank you for your patience as we work through the details
