Daily Briefing, March 30, 2020

  • We have a lot of updates today
  • County Judge Clay Jenkins held a press conference yesterday which specifically spoke to senior living environments.
    • As of today, Fowler has NO known symptoms or confirmed cases and we are taking all reasonable precautions to stay virus free
    • However, Edgemere has 4 confirmed cases –four in their skilled nursing – one died yesterday; one employee has tested positive.
    • Monticello West has 1 confirmed case
    • Skyline Nursing Center has 4 confirmed cases
  • Fowler was an early adopter of restrictive access and other protocols. This means that for most of the new processes that have been rolled out from the CDC, the state or county, we have already been doing it.
  • Sometimes, the restrictions are designed for just one level of care and to be proactive, we roll that restriction out for all areas of living.
  • Dallas County provided new restrictions yesterday to be implemented immediately
    • The county has now restricted healthcare workers from working in more than one location
    • No Fowler team member will work at any other healthcare facility
  • Everyone will have to re-sign your Attestation Form with the new information and new protocols
    • You should be taking your temperature at home each morning – if it is 6 or higher, do not come to work and follow isolation precautions. This is a change – it is no longer 100.4 it is 99.6
    • When you arrive at Fowler, we are also screening you and taking your temperature. If it is 99.6 or higher you will be sent home.
    • Just a reminder – if you have a cough, sore throat, fever of 99.6 or new shortness of breath – you should not be at work. This is not a combination of all these symptoms; it is any ONE of these things.
    • If you are sent home from work, you should reach out to Telemedicine or your primary care physician to discuss your symptoms. They will advise you on what steps to take.
    • You should use your sick time for these days off
  • We want to reinforce our mandate about building access – no one should be going from building to building – you are all assigned a workspace and you need to stay in it – we do not want to risk cross contamination
  • For our residents:
    • Residents in Jackson Living Center:
      • We will be rolling out a new dining protocol that will be effective tomorrow – no more community dining
      • You will get the new instructions and a room service menu delivered to your door later today
    • For our residents who are ordering groceries – either through our ordering service or on your own
      • please order pantry staples only and order enough to last you for 2 weeks if possible.
      • The orders are taking longer than expected and we want to make sure you have food to last.
      • If you find yourself without any food, we have food available in our Emergency pantry.
    • The parks are closed. Do not go to the park.
    • Many of you have been keeping us abreast of your neighbors coming and going. Thank you – in times like this, we are our brother’s keeper and it will take vigilance from all of us to keep the virus out of Fowler.
    • If you are one of those people that are coming and going, stop.
    • We are living under a shelter in place mandate – this is not optional. This isn’t just when you feel like it. It is the LAW.
    • You are putting yourself at risk and everyone in your building – our staff included.
    • Think of it this way, when you leave and go visit your daughter, everyone of your neighbors has gone with you and is now exposed to everywhere you and your daughter have been.
    • When someone is diagnosed with COVID, the Health Department comes in and takes over the facility and traces everyone’s movement in and out of the building. It is always traced back to the person who did not obey the rules.
    • Don’t be that person.
    • We know it’s hard; we want to go back to normal.
    • The longer we have people not complying the longer we are all having to do this.
    • AND the time may come that we will not be able to let you back in if you leave
    • The day will come that our doors will open again
  • For now, let’s keep fighting the fight against this invisible enemy.
