BRIEFING, MARCH 30, 2021

  • Good afternoon Fowler Family!
  • COVID UPDATE:
    • On Monday, Dallas County added 509 new cases and 12 deaths
    • Our positivity rate in Dallas County has dropped to 4.6% – this is demonstrating the impact of the vaccines
  • FOWLER UPDATES:
    • Visitation at Fowler: As Fowler has completed our vaccine clinics and has made the vaccines available to residents and team members, we can implement the new visitation guidelines that have been set forth by Texas Health and Human Services, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid and the Centers for Disease Control
    • New visitation is effective Thursday
      • We will be updating and providing a printed guideline to you and your families as well as placing this information on our website
      • All guests will be screened and temperatures will be taken
      • Restrictions will be reactivated when and if we have an active COVID case or there has been a COVID exposure
      • It is critical for all of us to do our best to limit any opportunity for exposure
      • As we welcome our families back to Fowler, we will be asking that we all maintain our Love Your Neighbor Basics – wear masks, wash your hands, sanitize surfaces and maintain an appropriate distance from people who do not live with you
    • We continue to advocate for and encourage all people to be vaccinated
  • EVENTS:
    • This past Saturday our One Heart Society volunteers planted flowers by the Abrams parking lot – grateful for this group of volunteers
    • This Friday is Good Friday and Sunday is Easter
    • Our services will be shown on Channel 6 and can be attended in person – by reservation
      • We will still need to social distance and maintain our Love Your Neighbor Basics
      • Therefore, we will not be able to take the chapel to full capacity
      • Contact Chaplain Venessa either by email at venessah@fowlercommunities.org or phone 214 515 1305 if you wish to make a reservation to attend in person worship services.
  • IN MEMORIUM
    • Yesterday, resident Evelyn K passed away. Evelyn had lived at Jackson Living Center and most recently at Pearl Nordan Care Center.
    • We received word today that FCA resident Loretta W passed away this morning
    • Please keep these families and our staff who loved them in your prayers
  • WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
    • Today for Women’s History month, we celebrate a world-renowned Aids researcher that has worked in the US government since the Reagan administration, Dr. Deborah L. Birx
    • A few years ago, the name Dr. Deborah Birx may have been unfamiliar to some, however, after being appointed to the White House Coronavirus Task Force, Dr. Birx quickly became a prominent figure in the midst of the global health crisis
    • After earning her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University, Birx served as an active-duty officer in the United States Army as the Director of the US Military HIV Research Program at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. She also served within the Department of Defense and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center where she ultimately ascended to Colonel
    • In 2014, Dr. Birx was appointed by former President Barack Obama as the Ambassador-at-Large and U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator as part of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief program, where she served for seven years. Her role has focused on the areas of HIV/AIDS immunology, vaccine research, and global health issues around HIV/AIDS. As part of her work with HIV prevention, Birx created a program called DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe), a public-private partnership focused on reducing infection rates among adolescent girls and young women.
    • In February 2020, Dr. Birx left her post as the U.S. Global AIDS coordinator to join the White House Coronavirus Task Force under former President Trump. Serving as the Coronavirus Response Coordinator, Dr. Birx drew on her years of experience fighting HIV/AIDs globally, to become one of the leading voices on the stage during the White House’s nightly briefings. Of the 27 members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, Dr. Deborah Birx was one out of the two female advisors to a nearly all-male task force, with the exception of administrator Seema Verme
    • Since leaving the White House earlier this year, Birx has taken on several roles in the private sector: senior fellow at the George W. Bush Institute; a member of the board of directors of the pharmaceutical company Innoviva; and chief medical and scientific adviser for ActivePure Technologies, a Dallas-based air filtration company
